Flights of Wonder

Luna and the Lunar Moths - a cat miniture portrait by Lesley IvoryTime is a subject even more mysterious and immeasurable, yet we all strive against it all the time to get our tasks achieved.

Luna And The Lunar Moths

There is not a creature on earth who is not influenced and captivated by the moon and the lure of its mysteries. It was the main inspiration for this painting, giving focus and link to Luna and the lunar moths, named in her honour after the Roman Goddess of the moon. Their feelings and thoughts evoked by the beauty and constancy of this faithful miracle in the sky.

Who can even guess what her feline namesake makes of it; or does she take it for granted - but wonders all the same?

It is full moon all the time in my painting, the real moon waxed and waned several times before I had finished it. Time is a subject even more mysterious and immeasurable, yet we all strive against it all the time to get our tasks achieved.

Time for cats is probably based on how hungry they are.

Moths have a short time but make the most of it, they have an extra gift in life: they can fly. So does time! The Lunar Moth caterpillar wistfully waits for his wings so he can join his forebears and fly closer to see for himself.

A few men from earth have actually been there. They have experienced what it is like. We have marvelled at the wonderful images they captured for us all to see. It was, however, far more wonderful when they arrived safely home again! There is no place like it. Home is where we belong and feel most comfortable. We are in the right place. It is a lot warmer too!

The Moonstones belong to Luna, they more often than not accompany her in paintings.
